Help us continue providing meals for those who need them most

Spain records one of the highest poverty rates in the European Union, a reality that manifests in Galicia as growing food insecurity. This project aims to mitigate this situation in La Coruña by providing food, hygiene services, and social care to vulnerable families, thereby guaranteeing their dignity and basic well-being.

Campaign objectives

This project seeks to offer a comprehensive response to families in a situation of vulnerability, covering their daily food needs in different districts of the city and facilitating, simultaneously, hygiene services and personalized social support.

Description

Since the 2020 health crisis, the situation of people in exclusion has been severely aggravated in our country. Despite advances, in 2025 the AROPE rate placed Spain as the fifth country in the European Union with the highest risk of poverty and social exclusion.

In Galicia, rising prices and economic instability have left thousands of households in a state of food insecurity, creating a direct dependency on social organisations to provide the basic shopping basket. In response to this reality, the Cocina Económica de La Coruña works to meet the essential needs of vulnerable families, striving to improve their quality of life and reverse their exclusion. To achieve this, we employ a comprehensive care model that combines the distribution of food and set meals with laundry and hygiene services, alongside personalised social support.

Activities

To achieve the objectives, the following actions will be carried out:

  • Breakfast service in the dining room: We offer a full breakfast consisting of coffee, fruit, juices and bakery products or Pastries.

  • Dining room service: It is served daily, from 12:15 to 14:30, a menu balanced and made every day in our Facilities.

  • Menu collection service in bag: To respond to high demand and optimize the dining room space, complete menus are distributed daily at the window (two dishes, drink, snack and dessert).

  • Distribution of meals in the four districts: This service allows food to be brought closer to families and vulnerable people in the neighborhoods of the periphery that present mobility difficulties to move to the Center.

  • Individualized social care: Through our social worker, we provide direct and basic care to users and families, guiding them in their needs. Specific.

  • Comprehensive cleaning service (showers, laundry and closet): intended to facilitate and maintain optimal hygienic-sanitary conditions, fundamental for the dignity and health of the Users.

Who will benefit?

This project is aimed at people and families in vulnerable situations in our environment. Currently, the entity serves an average of 400 people each day.
