Campaign objectives

Improve the quality of the provision of health services in the region of Bor (South Sudan), with special emphasis on women and children.

Description

South Sudan has been in a conflict situation for more than 5 years now, the humanitarian crisis in the country continues to intensify and expand: violence is spreading and economic decline threatens the health, security and subsistence of the population. It is estimated that 5.1 million people each year will suffer severe food insecurity.

The most vulnerable population groups are minors, women, people with disabilities or the elderly. They suffer even more from the consequences of the conflict, such as violence or lack of access to basic services such as healthcare.

Insecurity and forced displacement have undermined already precarious agricultural production, destroying the livelihoods of farmers and herders and causing food shortages. The people’s nutritional situation has been continuously deteriorating in the last four years and hunger and malnutrition intensified in scale and intensity. It is estimated that about 1.1 million children under the age of 5 and around 672,500 pregnant women or women in breastfeeding will suffer acute malnutrition.

Médicos del Mundo aims to provide assistance and contribute to the protection of the Bor region’s population, with special emphasis on women and children, as well as to prevent and reinforce the response capacity of the health services of the Bor Hospital in the event of a nutritional emergency.
