The campaign aims to draw public attention to the problem of food waste, positioning the need to act to stop it.
Enraíza Derechos has been working since 1985 for a world without hunger and poverty, sustainable and equal, in which all people can enjoy their rights.
To help make our eating model fairer and more sustainable, we work to reduce food waste, a phenomenon of enormous dimensions that not only has enormous social and economic implications, but also environmental ones. If waste were a country, it would be the third largest emitter of greenhouse gases in the world (after the US and China). In addition, it also implies wasting such limited and precious natural resources: it is estimated that more than 20% of arable land and fresh water are used to produce food that will end up being wasted.
In Spain, waste occurs throughout the entire food chain, and 42% comes from the final consumption phase. During the year 2021 our homes threw away 1,245 million kg of food, slightly less than previous years but still well above what is acceptable if we want to bet on sustainable consumption.
Enraíza Derechos works to transform the model of production, marketing and consumption of food, so that it is more just and sustainable, mobilizing citizens and other public and private actors.
In this campaign will be developed:
- Communicative actions through different channels and with different formats to raise awareness about the problem.
- We will also make a call to action, promoting citizen interaction through a specific website (yonodesperdicio.org) which offers the possibility of measuring one's own waste, giving guidelines for a more conscious and sustainable consumption.
The campaign aims to reach people with intensive use of digital channels and impacts on the media.
